What is a personal wellness plan and why does it matter?

Before we delve into the 'how to' part of a wellness plan let's ensure we have a good understanding of what a wellness plan is. A wellness plan is a customised approach towards bettering your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. It is a tool that helps you achieve your personal health goals as well as your self improvement goals.

Now, why does it matter?

It matters because a well crafted personal wellness plan allows you to take control of your life and make intentional choices that enable you to achieve better overall health and happiness. It is the first steps in your journey to self improvement and bettering your life.

How to create a personal wellness plan:

1. Carry out a self assessment:

Begin by carrying out an assessment of your own wellbeing. Identify the areas in your life that need improvement and what it is you would like to achieve. What in your life needs improving? Is it how you manage stress? Could it even be improving your physical health and becoming more active?

2. Setting goals:

Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time specific (SMART) goals. These goals should align with your self improvement objectives. They are personal and tailored towards your personal needs.

3. Action Planning:

Create a detailed action plan to achieve your wellness plan. This may include exercise routines, meal plans, meditation practices or educational pursuits. Ensure each action is attainable and aligns with your wellness goals.

4. Taking accountability and tracking:

Establish a system to track your progress and hold yourself accountable. You can even share your goals with a partner and allow them to check in with you and how you are getting on with your goals. Tracking systems may include journaling your progress down or using mobile apps such as Calm, Daylio, Fitbit or Headspace. These apps are all free to download on the App Store or Google Play.

To ensure your journey to self improvement is complete here are a few reminders:

  • Stay consistent with your goals
  • Seek support from your family and friends
  • Embrace the growth mindset and be open to change
  • Celebrate every milestone and every achievement no matter how small

Your personal wellness plan is a roadmap to self improvement and a healthier, happier life. By following the steps and tips this blog post outlines, you will be taking the first steps towards becoming the best version of yourself.
